Each January, for the last 19 years, the World Folk Music Association has sponsored an exciting folk music extravaganza, bringing together a unique mixture of both well-known and lesser known folk performers. It has always been a wonderful opportunity to see and hear your favorite folk performers as well as become aquainted with new ones. In 1997 the concert was expanded from a single evening in a large concert hall to a full weekend of folk music at one of the best listening rooms in the country:
On January 14 and 15th, 2005, the World Folk Music Association celebrated 20 years of benefit concerts with an outstanding weekend at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA, with a lineup of some of the country's greatest folk performers.

The Friday night concert also included the presentations of the WFMA Lifetime Achievement Award to Dick Cerri and the WFMA Appreciation Award to Robert Aubry Davis.
The Saturday night concert included the presentation of the Kate Wolf Memorial Award to Tom Rowe (posthumously).
In keeping with WFMA’s objective of providing folk fans with musical opportunities that just wouldn’t happen otherwise, WFMA expanded its concert offerings to include two Saturday afternoon workshop concerts. There were two workshop concerts:
Reserved seating ticket holders for the Saturday night show were invited to attend a reception with the performers. You can see photos of the reception here. The reception was held at the Headquarters Hotel, the Holiday Inn National Airport/Crystal City.
