The 13th Annual WFMA Benefit Festival was dedicated to the memory of and the Friday night show - "John Denver Remembered - by the old Cellar Door Gang" was the highlight of the weekend festival, Jan. 16-17, 1998 at the all-new Birchmere, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Each January, for the last 12 years, WFMA has sponsored a exciting evening of folk music, bringing together a unique mixture of both well-known and lesser known folk performers. It has always been a wonderful opportunity to see and hear your favorite folk performers as well as become aquainted with new ones. In 1997 the concert was expanded from a single evening in a large concert hall to a full weekend of folk music at one of the best listening rooms in the country:

John's first appearance with in 1966 was here in Washington at the Cellar Door. When the trio wasn't working, John made numerous visits to Washington to appear on a Music Americana Hootenanny or do a radio interview and just visit friends. When he later became a solo act, Washington was one of his favorite cities. He loved Washington and Washington loved him.
